Shivanand Jha appointed as police chief of Ahmedabad

Ahmedabad: Senior IPS officer Shivanand Jha, who was part of the special team that probed post-Godhra riots, was today appointed new Police Commissioner of Ahmedabad.

Mr Jha was Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) prior to his current appointment. The 53-year-old officer replaces SK Saikia, who retired today.

"Jha is the new Ahmedabad Police Commissioner. He will assume charge tomorrow," in-charge DGP Pramod Kumar said.

The 1983-batch officer was member of the Special Investigation Team constituted by the Supreme Court to probe the 2002 riots in Gujarat.
