Stringent security arrangements in counting centres

Chennai: Police have said stringent security arrangements have been made in four centres in the city were counting of votes of 17 assembly constituencies would be held on Friday.

Each of the four counting centres in Loyola College, Anna University, Queen Mary's College - all in Chennai and Mohammad Sathak Arts College in Sholinganallur will be manned under two Deputy Commissioners (Sholinganallur will have one DC).

Talking to reporters here, Commissioner of Police T Rajendran said 292 officers, 2150 other ranks, four central paramilitary companies, five Tamil Nadu Special Police companies would be mobilised on that day.

The four counting centres will follow three-tier cordoning system and would have over 45 frisking points in total. Only observers, ROs, candidates, chief agents and the media are permitted to carry mobile phones in the counting centres.

Each of the counting centres will have an Election Control Room, a Media Centre and a Public Communication Room.

Sholinganallur in Kancheepuram district is the largest constituency in Tamil Nadu with a voter strength of 3,40,615 voters.
