I have something in common with the President of the United States. No, I am not talking about our spectacular oratorical skills. :-)
Both Barack Obama and I have 12-year-old daughters. And, as any parent of a 12-year-old daughter shall confirm, there are common worries. Globally. And common prayers. The US President voiced one such at the annual National Prayer Breakfast in Washington some hours ago.
Obama talked about faith. He talked a lot about faith. But the words that leapt out at me from that wonderfully crafted speech were these: "As I travel across the country, folks often ask me what is it that I pray for. And like most of you, my prayers sometimes are general: Lord, give me the strength to meet the challenges of my office...Sometimes they're specific: Lord, give me patience as I watch Malia go to her first dance - where there will be boys. Lord, have that skirt get longer as she travels to that dance."
Catch the most powerful man on earth admit to being powerless when it comes to the species that knows everything best - the 12-year-old daughter.
Mr Obama, I have often aired views, in 140 characters or more, to suggest that I do not agree with a lot that you do or say as the President of the United States. But I empathise deeply with Malia's father. It is Friday and I too shall be praying for a skirt to grow longer this evening.
We are crawling the Web for more great videos, tweets, pictures, blogs and people that just must be showcased. If you spot some that make you stop and stare,
send them in here. We'll be happy to credit it to your spidery efforts on the WWW.
Have a great day.
