Agra:
Two young lives were cut short in such a tragic way, ironically in a city that's home to the monument of love.
In Agra, 24-year-old Fauzia, a Muslim, was allegedly killed by her parents after they discovered that she was having an affair with Sonu, who was a Hindu.
When Sonu learnt of her death, he was devastated and one day later, shot himself dead in the middle of a busy market.
"I saw this person talking on the phone and then we heard a bullet and we saw that he was dead," said an eyewitness.
Fauzia and Sonu were in a relationship and the two had decided to get married. Fauzia's family objected to their relationship since they belonged to different communities. They were even planning to marry her off elsewhere.
Sonu's family alleges that Fauzia's parents had even threatened Sonu.
"Both of them were having an affair. Fauzia's parents objected to it. Her father had even threatened my brother," said Rupal Savita, Sonu's sister.
Based on a police complaint filed by Sonu's sister, police exhumed Fauzia's body and the post-mortem report said she was strangled.
The Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Agra, Asim Arun said that a case of murder has been registered and the police have booked Fauzia's family. "They have also been booked for abetting Sonu's suicide," he added.
Fauzia's family is now on the run. Police say they have launched a search and will get them soon.
