Mumbai:
In an apparent case of caste violence in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar, a 17-year-old Dalit boy was killed allegedly by upper caste men on Monday.
The boy, who studies in Class 11, had gone to meet a girl from his school who studies in Class 9. The girl's brother got enraged at the meeting and started beating the boy. He was then dragged to an isolated area and beaten with sticks. The girl's brother then hanged the boy from a tree and his body was later found by his uncle.
The police have arrested the girl's brother after a complaint from the Dalit boy's father. Another man called Sheshrao Yevale and a minor have also been arrested.
"We have arrested three people and we will ensure that we take the case to its logical end. The accused have been sent to ten days of police custody," Ahmednagar Superintendent of Police, R D Shinde told NDTV.
The accused have been booked for murder and other charges under Sections 302, 201, 143,147, 148, 149. They have also been booked under the Prevention of Atrocities Act and the Protection of Civil Rights Act.
