Jamshedpur:
Onions are being provided free with the purchase of car and truck tyres by a tyre seller in Jamshedpur to protest against the rise in the price of the edible bulb.
"As the price of onion has gone up to Rs 60 a kilogram here, we have decided to offer five kilograms of onions free with the purchase of a truck tyre and one kilogram on two car radial tyres," Satnam Singh Gambhir, the tyre-seller in Kalimati Road in Sakchi said today.
Mr Gambhir, who is the President of the All India Sikh Students' Federation of Bihar and Jharkhand, had made a similar offer in December 2010 when the price of onions had also risen to Rs 60 a kilogram.
Asked why he was offering onions free, he said it was his way of protesting against the government's failure to check price rise and depreciation of the currency.
"We will continue the offer till Independence day and may extend it further depending on the government action to bring the price of the onion down," he said.
