Salman Shah and his wife Shabreen wanted a ransom of Rs. 10 lakh
Bangalore:
A six-year-old girl was kidnapped and killed, allegedly by her aunt and uncle, in Bangalore on Wednesday.
Police have arrested Salman Shah and his wife Shabreen, who allegedly killed the girl after the kidnapping went wrong
The victim, whose name has been withheld, was picked up early from school by Shabreen, police said.
Shabreen, who regularly picked up the girl, reportedly told school authorities that she needed to visit her ailing grandmother.
Salman then made a phone call demanding a ransom of Rs. 10 lakh from the parents, before sending them seven text messages reiterating his demand, said police.
When the shocked family took time to weigh their options, the couple allegedly killed the girl by strangulating her with a
dupatta.
The accused couple, who are childless, had planned to extort money from the girl's father, who works in Dubai, said police.
"The body of the girl was kept below the cot. The couple looked devastated themselves when we reached their house to arrest them. They have confessed to the crime. The father of the girl is based in Dubai so the couple thought they could make some quick money. It is a very unfortunate case," Bangalore Police Commissioner R Auradkar told NDTV.
