Dalit woman burnt alive in Bihar
Gaya: A Dalit woman has been burnt alive in Bihar's Gaya district by the upper caste Yadav landowners.

Her family alleges that the accused, Subedar Yadav - a former block pramukh - and his two nephews Yogesh and Mukesh, had promised them a house under the Indira Awas Yojana. They used to visit the woman often and take money from her.

The last time when the woman refused money, the Yadavs poured kerosene on her and set her on fire, says the victim's mother. The woman died in the hospital on Sunday.

The woman was at home with her four daughters when the men barged in. "She was burnt in our house only. He beat me and my brother and sister and threw us outside the room. He then closed the room and burnt her with kerosene oil," said the victim's daughter.

The victim's husband works as a labourer in Shimla.

An FIR has been lodged and the accused is on the run. "The main accused is Subedar Yadav. The victim and he had problems regarding money. He is said to have gone to her place at night, fought with her, beat her and then set her on fire. He will be arrested as soon as he is proven guilty and action will be taken based on the FIR," said Akhtar Hussain, Superintendent of Police, Gaya.
