Delhi University Rushes to Recruit Ad-Hoc Faculty

New Delhi: With just two days to go for the start of new academic session, several Delhi University colleges on Friday rolled out notices announcing walk-in interviews for appointment of ad-hoc teachers this weekend (July 19-20).

The fate of the ad-hoc teachers was uncertain so far, following the dismissal of the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) that pushed the university to restructure the curriculum in order to ensure commencement of the new academic year as per schedule.

Several colleges including Department of Geology, Deen Dayal Upadhyay College, Miranda House, Shyama Prasad Mukherjee College, Rajdhani college, Indraprastha College for Women, Gargi College, Aryabhatt college among others have posted notices on their websites inviting the candidates for interviews on Saturday and Sunday.

"Generally, the process of appointment of ad-hoc teachers is completed at least three weeks prior to the beginning of new academic session. However, due to the delay in restructuring of courses and assessment of workload the appointment has been delayed but nevertheless will be finished before the session begins", said Pratibha Jolly, Principal of Miranda House. In addition, the college clarified in the issued notice that these appointments may not necessarily be for the entire session.

"Actual appointment for the odd semester, academic year 2014-15 will be as per the workload requirement of the department and the roster, to be announced shortly", the notice issued by Miranda House specified.

"The appointment of ad-hoc teachers is done through walk-in interviews only. However, this time it has been little delayed as the courses and time tables were being finalized", said SK Garg, Principal of Deen Dayal Upadhyay College.

The University invalidated reports of delay in commencement of the academic session by assuring the prospective students that the new session and semester would commence on July 21 as per the schedule.

The final approval of the three-year system stays pending till the Academic Council and Executive Council meet tomorrow.
