Aligarh:
Four persons were killed and atleast seven others injured on Sunday after a brake lever snapped from a freight train at Aligarh junction and the wheel ploughed into passengers waiting at the platform, police sources said here.
The incident occurred last evening when brake wheel of a passing goods train snapped from one of the wagons and hit the passengers waiting at Platform Number 2 of the railway station, they said.
While two persons were killed on the spot, two others died at the hospital, sources said.
The injured were admitted to different hospital where condition of three was stated to be critical, they said.
The Railway Ministry in Delhi announced an enhanced ex-gratia compensation to victims, their kith and kin at Aligarh station last evening.
The relatives of the four people who died in the train accident will get Rs 2 lakh, while persons who have received grievous injuries will get Rs 50,000. Those with minor injuries will be paid Rs 15,000.
The Railways have ordered an inquiry into the accident.
