Honda City reportedly carrying 7 crores robbed in South Delhi

The abandoned Wagon R at the scene of the crime

New Delhi: At about 9.30 on Tuesday morning, the Delhi Police received a call from a man who said he had been robbed of Rs seven crore in a hold-up near the Moolchand flyover, one of the busiest areas of south Delhi.

The man told the police that he was driving his Honda City to his bank in Karol Bagh to deposit the cash when a silver Maruti Wagon R overtook him and came to a sudden stop just ahead, forcing him stop too.

He said a few men got off the car and in broad daylight, at rush hour, walked up to Honda City. They were joined by others.

One of them, he alleged, pointed a gun at the four people in his car and not only snatched the money from them, but also forced them out of the car and sped away in it.

The police said the Wagon R that the alleged robbers left behind was found to have been stolen from Jahangirpuri in north west Delhi about half an hour before the alleged robbery.

They also discovered a Hyundai Verna abandoned less than a kilometre away in Defence Colony and have deduced that the alleged gang of robbers had used two cars.

The police said two of the suspects traveled in the Verna and there were three in the Wagon R. Both cars, they said, seemed to have tailed the City, before the Wagon R moved ahead to force it to stop.

About four and a half hours later, the cops found the hijacked Honda City. It had two empty bags in it, the cops said.

The alleged robbers are absconding.
