A man who allegedly killed his two-month-old son fearing his birth did not auger well for him was arrested on Saturday.
Madhu, a 27-year-old fisherman from Punnapra , allegedly thrashed the baby on the floor two days ago after an astrologer told him that the child born with two teeth was a bad omen for him, police said.
The baby died in the hospital today due to severe head injuries.
According to police, the man confessed to the crime during questioning after the doctor of the hospital where the baby was taken became suspicious of the case.
While Madhu initially told police that the baby got injured by falling off the cot, his wife's statement did not corroborate to his. The mother said the child was laid to sleep on the floor.
Police also questioned the astrologer, who said he did not advise the man to kill the baby but suggested certain poojas and rituals to overcome bad omen, in this connection.
