A 33-year-old PhD scholar from Manipur was found dead at his rented residence in the Kotla Mubarakpur area of south Delhi last night. The police said his throat had been slit.
A case of murder has been registered.
Zingran Kengoo's body, the police said, was found lying in a pool of blood by his landlord's brother. He called the police at 9.30 pm on Wednesday.
Mr Kengoo had also suffered head injuries, the police said. The body has been sent for an autopsy and his family has been informed.
The police said Mr Kengoo's room showed no sign of a forced or hostile entry. They have found a knife in the room and are trying to ascertain if it was used to kill him.
Zingran Kengoo was reportedly pursuing a PhD or doctorate from the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences. He had come to Delhi only a few months ago, the police said.
