Gayatri Prajapati, the MLA from Amethi, had gone to the Hanuman Gargi temple to pray after his return to his constituency.
The incident is bound to cause further embarrassment to the Akhilesh Yadav-led Uttar Pradesh government, which has been slammed for spending heavily on the lavish Saifai Mahotsava in the chief minister's ancestral village when riot-affected families in relief camps have been complaining of inadequate medicines and warm clothing to see them through winter.
