Ship that drifted, now a tourist attraction

Mumbai: MV Wisdom, a ship that has run aground near Mumbai's Juhu beach, has become a new tourist attraction. The proximity of the vessel to the beach has raised the curiosity levels of onlookers at the beach and a lot of people have gathered to see the ship.

On Saturday, the vessel had drifted dangerously close to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link after the cable connecting it to the tug boat snapped due to rough weather.

Sources say the vessel, which was travelling from Colombo to Alang, developed engine trouble and was being towed by a tug.

It later drifted away from the Sea Link and beached at Juhu. The vessel was on its way from Colombo to the Alang scrapyard.

Sources in the Directorate General of Shipping say there is no immediate threat of pollution because there is no cargo or any fuel in it.

Sources also say they are in touch with the owners of the vessel who are trying to make arrangements within the next few days to refloat it and take it to Alang.
