The winter chill claimed its first victim during the shooting of TV serial
Laagi Tujhse Lagan in Film City, Goregaon.
The accident occurred when Vijay Gupta (40), a light man was fitting lights atop a 37ft tress and due to shivering caused by the bitter cold, lost his grip and plummeted to the ground below.
Vijay was the only earning member of the family and is survived by his wife and three children
What makes the accident more tragic is that the unfortunate victim fell onto protruding steel rods and was instantly impaled.
According to witnesses on the sets of a TV serial, Gupta was fixing a light atop a high light tress.
Eyewitness Raj Kumar Gupta said, "It was dark and very cold. Even when he started climbing the stairs with the lights, he was shivering. We thought he would reach easily but seconds later I saw him fall down, and the rods below pierced his body. We went to almost every hospital, but were unable to find any open at that time. When we finally reached Bhagwati hospital, he was declared dead."
Babloo Gupta, cousin of the deceased, said, "My brother was unable to bear the cold at that height and fell down. The family is demanding compensation and the production house people have assured us that they will do the needful and take care of us."
Vijay was the only earning member of the family and is survived by his wife and three children who stay in a rented apartment.
Senior PI Laxman Tope of Aarey Colony Police Station said, "We have conducted the panchnama and the body has been sent for the postmortem. We also have registered a case of accidental death, based on which the investigation is in progress."
