Bangalore:
Late on a Saturday night, a teenager, the son of a businessman, was driving his SUV home with three of his friends. Another teenager, Deepak Kumar was also on the road. The 19-year-old had put in yet another long shift at the pub where he worked everyday to help put his younger brother through school.
That would be Deepak's last journey home.
Security cameras at a major intersection would establish that the SUV, a brand-new Audi Q7, came speeding towards the auto and rammed into it. The auto rickshaw flew a meters away due to the impact. Deepak died immediately. His cousin, who was traveling with him, and the auto driver are fighting for their life in two different hospitals in Bangalore.
"I cannot begin to describe my pain," said Deepak's mother Amutha, who works as a domestic help. "My son was everything to me. We want him to get justice. The guilty should be punished.
Her husband died four years ago. Since then, Deepak's income supported the family.
The police says that the driver of the car was 19-year-old Rajesh Reddy, a business management student. But it was only 36 hours after the accident that his blood samples were collected to check if he was driving drunk at 150 kilometres per hour.
