The house in which the militants were holed up
Srinagar:
A 20-hour-long stand-off between militants and security forces in Ahmednagar on the outskirts of Srinagar ended this evening. The two Lashkar-e-Taiba militants, who were holed up inside a house in the congested residential area, have been killed.
Two policemen have been injured in the encounter that began on Sunday evening.
Security forces had asked the militants, who took refuge in a residential house belonging to Abdul Majid Ranrez last evening, to surrender but they refused the offer, a senior police officer said.
The police first evacuated the house owner and his wife who were trapped inside the house.
The police say they received a tip-off about the two suspected militants last evening, who then entered the house.
