2G case: 2 judges recuse themselves from hearing Kanimozhi's bail plea
New Delhi: On a day the CBI has opposed DMK MP Kanimozhi's bail plea in the Supreme Court, two Supreme Court judges have recused themselves from hearing her bail plea.

The judges, P Sathasivam and AK Patnaik, want the matter to be heard by Justice GS Singhvi's bench, who is monitoring the overall 2G case.

Justice Singhvi will come into the court specially on Monday to hear Kanimozhi's bail plea. The court is currently closed for the summer vacation.

The DMK MP has been accused by the CBI of accepting a Rs. 214-crore kickback from the 2G telecom scam that's created the perfect political storm.

The MP, whose father M Karunanidhi heads the DMK, was arrested in May in Delhi. She's been in Tihar Jail since then along with fellow DMK leader A Raja. While he was Telecom Minister in 2008, Mr Raja allegedly sold mobile network licenses and spectrum at mammoth discounts to companies that have now been accused of colluding with him.

A cheque for 214-crores was allegedly routed through a maze of companies to rest with a TV channel in Chennai that's co-owned by Kanimozhi. That money is described by the CBI as a kickback for Mr Raja from a grateful telecom company.
