The wrecked Aston Martin that crashed into two cars in Mumbai on December 8
The Mumbai police are yet to arrest a man who came to them and claimed he was driving the Aston Martin that crashed into two cars nearly two weeks ago, saying they want proof that he was the driver and not someone else.
In the early hours of December 8, a speeding Aston Martin belonging to Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Ports went out of control and crashed into two other luxury cars, an Audi and a Hyundai Elantra, causing a Rs 4.5 crore pile-up on Peddar Road in south Mumbai. Eyewitnesses reportedly saw the driver escape in another car that was following the Aston Martin.
Reliance claims one of their drivers, 55-year-old Bansilal Joshi, was at the wheel and lost control.
But the police are treating this version with skepticism and say they want enough evidence against Mr Joshi before arresting him.
Apart from forensic evidence, the police have decided to take help from mobile companies to confirm whether Mr Joshi was indeed at the spot that day.
Phorum Ruparel, who was driving one of the cars hit by the Aston Martin, has said she is not sure whether the driver was Bansilal Joshi, as she "did not see the driver properly. It happened so fast that I couldn't manage to see anything."
"The cops are saying that the investigation is still on and they are looking into the matter," Ms Ruparel told NDTV.
