Srinagar:
There is a sudden increase in infiltration attempts by militants in north Jammu and Kashmir. At least nine militants were killed in two separate encounters in the last week in the Kupwara district.
Meanwhile, the army has also captured a Pakistani militant who said that the Pakistan Army and other secret agencies are running training camps, and taking new recruits for militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Nisar Ahmad, who is from Karachi, says he was sent to Jammu and Kashmir, along with a group of militants after they were trained in a camp at Manshera, in Pakistan.
Army officer, Lt Gen S A Hasnain, of the GOC 15 Corps, explains how they caught Nisar. ''The ISI agency and army members across the border were mixed up with this group. Both the agency and army members briefed the group and ordered them to infiltrate. When the group tried to cross the border, there was a confrontation with the Indian Army which caused the group to break up. All of the militants escaped, except for Nisar Ahmed, who we captured alive.''
The militant claims he was trained by the Pakistan Army but says he had little choice in the matter. ''The Pakistan Army and agencies are colluding with militants. I was trained in Manshera for three months. They taught us how to use Kalashnikovs. But I wasn't very good with it, so they didn't let me fire. My elder brother forcibly dropped me off at the Lashkar-e-Toiba training camp, I didn't go out of choice.''
