Nawada:
Days after a village in Bihar buried 23 young children who were poisoned by their school lunch, anger is radiating across the state over the fact that nobody has been held accountable yet for the gross negligence.
A protest today by more than 100 students against the allegedly poor quality of their free mid-day meal turned violent today. Three teachers were beaten up in Bhikhampur Middle School, said local officials in the Nawada district, over 120 kilometres from Patna.
On Monday, a school in the Chhapra district served lunch laced with insecticide.
The children who were demanding better meals in today's protest were between the ages of 10 and 16.
Villagers are seething over the fact that nobody has been arrested or held accountable yet for the Chhapra tragedy. The school's headmistress and her husband, who allegedly supplied the school its groceries, are missing.
