Government Officials Learn Nuances of Social media

New Delhi: Nearly 150 officials from 59 ministries today learnt the nuances of using Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and blogs for spreading information and government's messages on the social media.

With Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself having set an example in communicating through the social media, the New Media Wing of the Information and Broadcasting ministry organised a social media workshop in Delhi.

Speaking on the occasion, Information and Broadcasting (I&B) Secretary Bimal Julka has said the Internet is fast becoming mainstream, not just in terms of the significant number of users but also in how fast it is seeping into the lives of the people of India.

He emphasized on building up communication strategies targeted for masses keeping in view the Prime Minister's vision of 'Minimum Government and Maximum Governance' for time-bound delivery of government services.

Mr Julka urged the ministries to utilize the social media communication hub established by the I&B ministry.

A statement released by the I&B ministry said the workshop was divided into four sessions. The first session concentrated on transforming governance through social media, which focused on the 'Listen and Engage Module' of social media, it's analytic and response management.

A demonstration was also given on the pre-budget and post-budget analytics and report-making. The second session was a hands-on on Twitter usage and it's specialtity as a unique media tool to impart information on a larger scale. The session also covered various nitty-grittys of Facebook as an interactive medium for government communication.

The third session was on Youtube and focused on popularizing government videos through this platform and the importance of tagging for social engine optimization. The final session was on blogs, a statement released by the ministry said.
