Mumbai:
According to sources, Environment Minister Jairam Ramesh is to meet the Prime to discuss the Lavasa housing project.
The Environment Ministry has asked for more time in taking a final decision on the controversial Lavasa housing project. The ministry wants time till the 25th of this month to let the court know its decision after a show cause notice was issued to the project.
The high-profile Lavasa hilltown in Maharashtra is charged with violating environment laws.
The MoEF had served the notice to Lavasa Corporation in November, as to why it did not obtain environmental clearances as per notifications issued under the Environment Protection Act before the project started in 2004.
The High Court had on December 22 directed the MOEF to take decision on the show cause notice by January 10 and had also directed for state/centre level Environment Impact Assessment Committee to visit the site for inspection before taking the decision.
