The hospital, Asian Heart Institute, has said that there is no cause for panic and that Mr Yadav, who has a heart condition, is undergoing a "scheduled full check-up."
A report is expected later today. "The family will take final call on whatever follow-up is needed," the hospital said. It emphasised that there was "no emergency."
The 66-year-old politician arrived at the hospital in a car.
He had reportedly avoided extensive road travel and used a helicopter while campaigning for the by-elections to 10 seats assembly seats in Bihar this month.
Lalu Yadav has fought these elections in partnership with longtime rival Nitish Kumar, testing a new anti-BJP alliance ahead of state elections next year.
Sources said Mr Yadav was due for valve replacement a few days ago and had delayed his appointment.
