Madhya Pradesh Exam Scam: Congress Accuses Senior State BJP Leaders of Involvement

Medical students, arrested in connection with the Pre-Medical Test (PMT) scam, being taken to the Central Jail.

Bhopal: Since Wednesday, the Special Task Force (STF) across Madhya Pradesh has arrested over 100 people involved in the multi-crore State Examination Board Scam. The STF has intensified its investigation as the next hearing in the case is on 30th June in the High Court.

The Congress too has intensified its attack on the ruling party and has alleged that Senior BJP leaders, ministers and even the family of chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is involved in the scam which is estimated to have affected the career prospects of over one crore students.

"In this scam Uma Bharti, Kailash Vijayavarghiya and other BJP leaders are involved. The CM's family is also involved," says KK Mishra, spokesperson of the Madhya Pradesh Congress.

The Congress has also alleged that 16 students from the city of Gondia in Maharashtra to which Mr Chouhan's wife Sadhana Singh belongs, got admissions out of turn. The Congress however was not able to furnish documents to support this claim. BJP in retaliation is now preparing to sue them.

Narendra Singh Tomar, BJP state President and Union Steel Minister told NDTV, "If there is any truth in the call records presented by the Congress against us, then they should approach the STF. We will go to court against the Congress."

Youth Congress activists protested against union water resources minister Uma Bharti in Ujjain today by showing her black flags. Ms Bharti issued a statement saying, "The Congress is now doing dirty politics and trying to create confusion in the investigation as their party members may be involved. My name surfaced in the scam in December last year and I was shocked but STF had given me a clean chit."

Former BJP minister Lakshmikant Sharma, who is an accused in the scam has resigned and Sudhir Sharma a mining baron is absconding in the case. On 26th June, Mr Chouhan's former officer on special duty (OSD) Premchandra Prasad was summoned by STF for questioning as he allegedly procured a medical seat for his daughter in 2012.
