Lucknow:
An intense cold weather continued for the sixth straight day in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, with temperatures falling below zero in Agra, Lucknow and Kanpur, setting a new record of lows.
According to the weatherman, while the skies would open up, icy winds would continue to make things difficult.
On Tuesday, the temperature in Lucknow dipped to -0.2 degree Celsius, the lowest in 49 years.
The night temperature in Kanpur touched a never before -1.1 degrees while the minimum in the Sangam city of Allahabad was 0.3 degrees.
The regional met office has said there will be no respite from the "unusual chill" over the next few days.
Meanwhile, owing to fog in many parts of the state, 17 trains were said to be running late. The Farakka Express has been cancelled, railway officials said.
