Kargil:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi made his second trip in two months to Kashmir today. He is the first prime minister to visit the high-altitude town since the Kargil war of 1999.
Mr Modi laid the foundation stone for the first power transmission line from Leh to Srinagar and inaugurated one hydel power project - 45-megawatt Nimoo Bazgo in Leh and will inaugurate the second one, the 44-megawatt Chutak in Kargil district.
Here are the highlights:- I'm fortunate that I have got this opportunity to speak to my brothers and sisters in Kargil
- Today when I came and I hear the sound of clapping but when I was here earlier, bombs could be heard going off
- When I was here the people here knew I was a BJP worker but nobody took any move from me. I was given tea, food and people welcomed me. I saw the people here cooperate with the soldiers who were fighting. I remember how Kargil celebrated when Tiger Hill was won.
- The power that has reached here is not just to light your houses or charge your mobile phones or watch soap operas on TV. This electricity is critical to the industrial development of this area. If there is electricity, small scale industry will grow.
- An additional 8000 crores to finish pending projects
- I am sure the youth here can work hard, earn money and feed their families. We are committed to enhancing connectivity in this region.
- We have inaugurated a transmission line here with a budget of 1800 crores.
- You will be linked to Srinagar and to India and will not have to face power cuts.
- We are working towards fulfilling the dream of Atal Behari Vajpayee
- When I was working in Gujarat and we went to Kutch, we always spoke of the problems of the border areas.
- After the earthquake, some people from there came to meet me and said, 'Don't speak about border problems or Pakistan, talk about the future.'
- I was a four term Chief Minister and whenever I went there, I only spoke of development.
- All of us together will try and change 'bharat's bhagya' (India's future) but those who are the most deprived need to be given priority.
- No corner of India should be left untouched by road, rail and air connectivity. But the first priority is giving employment to the youth.
- We are interested in development and taking everyone together
- Need your help in fighting corruption otherwise money will come and go but not benefit the people
- About 20 per cent people of Jammu and Kashmir are displaced, we will take all possible steps for their rehabilitation
- When see such a large gathering on TV, the whole country will be astounded. They will be inspired by your patriotism.
- We are committed to doing whatever we can to live up to your expectations and hopes
