Bihar politicians seem to be the new favorite target of burglars and thieves of the state.
Patna police has recovered cash, gold and property documents worth crores of rupees from thieves who had stuck at the home of former MP, Sadhu Yadav, the brother of former chief minister Rabri Devi.
The recovery comes close of heels of a similar case in which police recovered more than a crore rupees in cash and jewellery worth lakhs from the house of BJP MP, Giriraj Singh.
Police said that it had recovered more than 39 lakhs rupees in cash along with property documents worth 18 lakh rupees and 4 kilos of gold jewellery estimated to be worth 1 crore.
This was in addition to lakhs of rupees that the thieves had already spent, police added.
"We have nabbed three burglars. The valuation of ornaments is still going on. If the preliminary inquiry is any indication, the cash theft may be around 75 lakh rupees," Senior Superintendent Patna, Manu Maharaj said.
Sadhu Yadav, who contested the 2014 parliamentary elections against his sister Rabri Devi from Saran constituency, had not mentioned the amount stolen from his house in his FIR.
Mr. Yadav has owned the amount and all the valuable items including gold and other items but has not disclosed the source of the money and the valuables.
Even though the onus will still be on him to prove the source of the cash. The Income Tax department might also quiz him on whether he has paid his taxes.
Police said it had also questioned the people who had sold their land to three accused.
