Protesting over Telangana, TDP MP Siva Prasad whips himself outside Parliament

New Delhi: A Telugu Desam Party MP drew curious onlookers and cameras today when he stood outside Parliament whipping himself to protest against the decision to create a separate Telangana state.

N Siva Prasad had brought the whip to the House and he even brought it out before the Speaker before stepping out to lash himself.

Mr Prasad is one of 11 MPs from the coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regions who have disrupted Parliament proceedings every day of this monsoon session to register their protest against the decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh to create Telangana.

Today the government, desperate to get Parliament to function so that it can push the food security bill and other important legislation, moved a motion that these MPs - seven from the ruling Congress and four from the TDP - be suspended till the end of the session for disrupting House.

The BJP opposed the move and Parliament was adjourned for the day, amid ruckus.
