Sachin Pilot named Rajasthan Congress chief

New Delhi: Union minister Sachin Pilot will head the Congress in Rajasthan, a state where the party lost power after a humiliating defeat in assembly polls last month.

Mr Pilot, 36, represents Ajmer constituency and is the Minister of Corporate Affairs in the Union Cabinet. Seen to be close to Rahul Gandhi, Mr Pilot takes over as Rajasthan Congress chief three months before the national election.

In the December state polls, the Ashok Gehlot-led Congress government suffered a rout, winning just 21 of 200 assembly seats.

Senior party leaders said Mr Pilot marks a generational shift in the state that has 25 crucial Lok Sabha seats. More changes are expected in the coming weeks, they said.

Sachin pilot is the son of late Union Minister Rajesh Pilot and Rama Pilot, who was
also MP for a term.
