Pulwama::
Seven villagers were injured as security forces allegedly opened fire on protesters after an encounter with militants in south Kashmir's Pulwama district today.
Police said some villagers had thrown stones at vehicles evacuating an officer injured in the encounter, prompting the security forces to open fire.
Some of the injured villagers are reported to be in serious condition.
The firing sparked off massive protests in Pulwama, with villagers clashing with the police at various places. Police say the protesters threw stones at them.
Two militants were killed in the encounter. Three securitymen were injured.
Police say the militants were responsible for a grenade attack on a tourist bus in Bijbehara in July that killed four women from Mumbai.
