Students protest at Osmania University

Hyderabad: Students of Osmania University and other Telangana supporters today held a rally protesting against Andhra Pradesh government's decision to go ahead with the written test for recruitment of police sub-inspectors.

Some of them pelted stones at shops and public transport buses at nearby Tarnaka locality. They were, however, dispersed by the police.

Meanwhile, TRS leaders and activists blocked roads at several places in the city and elsewhere in the region to protest the government's decision.

"The state government is meting out step-motherly treatment to Telangana region. The government would do everything for the benefit of non-Telangana regions. But when it comes to Telangana, they have no respect for the sentiments of people," TRS MLA T Harish Rao alleged.

Telangana groups and leaders from major parties had asked the government to postpone the exam for recruiting SIs until the 'Hyderabad free zone' issue is resolved.

Despite appeals from Telangana students and political leaders, the government last night decided to go ahead with the exam scheduled in December.

The students in Telangana allege justice will not be done to them, if, Hyderabad remains a free zone for
recruitment. The city should be a part of Zone-6 that comprises other Telangana districts, they said.

Free zone tag means people from all parts of Andhra Pradesh would hold equal rights in jobs in Hyderabad.

Meanwhile, police have imposed prohibitory orders in the city from tomorrow for a week to maintain law and order.

Organising any kind of public meetings and processions in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad without obtaining prior permission has been prohibited till November 25 from tomorrow, Police Commissioner A K Khan said.
