New Delhi:
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has accepted the first report of the Group of Ministers (GoM) on Corruption. A new bill to tackle corruption will now be introduced in the winter session of Parliament.
The GoM, an eight-member panel formed in January, in its report has suggested withholding pension of corrupt officials. They have also recommended four panels to be set up for procurements.
According to the report, ministers are also set to lose some discretionary powers.
Out of the 54 ministries, 38 have discretionary quotas which have often been misused to shower favours. UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi had earlier called for the removal of discretionary powers of ministers at the Congress' plenary session in Delhi.
