Gwalior:
Three students of the famous Scindia School in Gwalior have been expelled after they allegedly ragged a junior who is now in hospital in critical condition. In a statement, the school described the expulsion of the students as "in line with its zero tolerance policy towards indiscipline."
The expelled students were arrested by the police and then granted bail. Two members of the school staff are being questioned by the police over their alleged negligence in preventing the harassment of a student.
On Wednesday, the 14-year-old son of a Bihar minister was found unconscious in his room and was rushed to a local hospital before being taken to Delhi, accompanied by two school teachers.
"After recording the statements of the three senior boys belonging to influential families, we found out that the teen attempted suicide as the trio used to harass him by asking him to do menial jobs," said Mohammad Yusuf Qureshi, a senior police officer handling the case. He said the senior students also beat up the boy.
The Bihar minister has refuted allegations that the teen tried to commit suicide; he claims that the child was strangled by seniors who had been harassing him for weeks. But the police say they have recovered a bed sheet and a ceiling fan that the teen tried to use in his alleged attempted suicide.
