Kamla is in hospital, in a critical condition.
Dehradun:
Killing a big cat with bare hands had so far been the domain of Africa's Masai warriors. But an elderly woman in an Uttarakhand village - 56-year-old Kamla -- has equalled the feat.
On the wee hours of Sunday, when Kamla was tilling her fields, a leopard attacked her.
The leopard population in Uttarakhand's Garhwal region is growing, and man-animal conflicts are becoming more and more a norm.
As she shouted for help, Kamla fought back. All she had were a few puny farming tools. By the time the villagers arrived to rescue her, she had been grievously injured. And the leopard -- dead.
Almost 48 hours on, Kamla is in hospital, in a critical condition, fighting for her life.
But she is well on her way to becoming the subject of local folklore.
