New Delhi:
The government is likely to set up a committee soon to look into the need to reform examination pattern in school boards.
A decision to the effect was taken at an annual meeting of Council of Boards of School Education (COBSE) held at Ajmer on Tuesday, sources in the HRD Ministry said.
Participants from the various state boards agreed that there was a need to reform examination system in state boards on the lines of CBSE which took the initiative recently.
The CBSE system now aims to increase the logical ability of the student, along with increasing his or her creativity instead on focussing on text book oriented approach.
Sources said the committee looked into the exam system being followed by the various boards and suggested changes could be set up "very soon".
The meeting, chaired by Union HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, also discussed the need to modify the syllabus being followed by the various boards.
While all state boards have agreed in principle to switch to a uniform Core Curriculum in Mathematics and Sciences from 2011, for the plus 2 level, Sibal had asked COBSE to also help develop a Core Curriculum for Commerce.
The curriculum was circulated among the members and is likely to be implemented from 2011.
