Website mocking Narendra Modi shuts down with an 'I quit' message
New Delhi: A website mocking Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has died a quick death after backlash forced its creator to remove all content, with a declaration "I quit".

The website, narendramodiplans.com, which promised to reveal the Gujarat chief minister's 'plans to run the nation if elected Prime Minister' but made visitors click on a quirky runaway link, has shut down less than a day after its debut.

On Wednesday morning, the creator had this message on the page: "I quit. In a country with freedom of speech, I assumed that I am allowed to make decent satire on any politician more particularly if it's constructive. Clearly, I was wrong." He claimed that the website had received 60,000 hits in its first 20 hours.

Later, even the message vanished, and the URL led to an error page, apparently after more backlash on the social media.

The site had displayed a smiling Mr Modi holding up his fingers in a victory sign, and said: "For a detailed explanation of how Mr Narendra Modi plans to run the nation if elected to the house as a Prime Minister and also for his view/perspective on 2002 riots please click the link below"

But no matter how many times one clicked on the link, the button would 'run away'. That's when it would dawn on the viewer, that it's all a joke.

"Apparently, you could make fun of only the leading party like @fakingnews with morphed pics, dirty jokes, cartoon and whatever, but dare you touch the opposition with javascript, they'll haunt you down," said the creator's closing message.

But a similar site mocking Rahul Gandhi, rahulgandhiachievements.com is still running. All that it shows is a completely blank page with a date, updated every day.
