Badaun, Uttar Pradesh:
The families of the Badaun cousins- who were found hanging from a mango tree in rural Uttar Pradesh - have said that they will hang themselves from the same tree if "justice is not done in the case."
The statement comes days after sources from the Central Bureau of Investigation said that there was no evidence of the two girls having been raped before they were killed.
The victim's families have however said that the accused had admitted to the crime in front of the villagers and have questioned the latest twist in the case, which had provoked national outrage.
"If justice is not served my entire family and I will hang ourselves on the same tree," father of one of the victim's said.
CBI officials have said they are not ruling out the involvement of the family and they are not ruling out an honour killing angle.
But the family is questioning the CBI's findings.
The CBI has said the victim's family paid one lakh rupees to the main witness in the case. Both the victim's family and witness acknowledge this but say the money is meant as a loan to the witness for his father's treatment.
The witness insists that he saw the accused forcibly taking the girls away the night before their bodies were found hanging.
Meanwhile, the father of Pappu Yadav, the main accused said he has full faith in the system and was confident of his son being released soon.
"They will be released soon but if he is indeed responsible then they should be punished," Bire Yadav, father of the main accused said.
Five men - three from a family and two local constables --- have been arrested in the case. Their bail hearing is scheduled for the later this month, where in absence of a CBI objection they will be released on a bond.
The fathers of the two girls had alleged that the police refused to help when the girls went missing because they wanted to protect the suspects who belong to the Yadavs, a higher caste. The local police officers had suggested that it was a case of honour killing.
