Police said there were more than 40 people in the bus.
New Delhi:
11 people have died and at least 25 are seriously injured when an Andhra Pradesh state road transport corporation bus with over 50 people travelling in it fell off the road at least 20 feet into a gorge. Most of those travelling on the bus, both killed and injured, were junior college students.
The bus was travelling from Madakasira to Penukonda when the accident happened at around 8:15 am, some four kilometres short of Penukonda.
The driver was apparently trying to avoid an autorickshaw coming from the opposite side and the driver swerved causing the accident, according to eyewitnesses. Negligence of the driver is being blamed.
Thankfully 108 ambulances were available nearby and reached within 20 minutes of the accident. The injured were shifted to Anantpur district hospital, Puttaparthi Satya Saibaba hospital and also Bangalore.
