Bangalore:
Six gold medals in Chemistry. A matter of pride, especially when the student has pretty much worked and paid her own way through her higher education. Meet Noorjan who got all these medals in her MSc Chemistry exam from Bangalore University.
Noorjan proves the often used cliche - where there is a will, there is a way. Noorjan comes from a family which could not afford to pay her college fees - her father earns Rs 6000 a month - but that did not stop her. Her hard work giving tuitions- and the help of scholarships - saw her through.
"Till PUC we were very good, we were in middle class family only. After my PUC, some loss was there in business of my papa and we faced many difficulties. So I started giving tuitions to small children. Then I got a 5000 rupee UGC scholarship. I got the second rank in BsC in Chemistry. I got scholarships from the Karnataka government - first year 10000, second year 12000. The Jindal Foundation paid my hostel fees," says Noorjan.
Noorjan lived up to the expectations - and justified the financial help she had received.
She got an impressive 6 gold medals in her MSc examination. She acknowledged the support of her family, saying, "Whenever I told my father I wanted to study, he told me study as much as you want. My parents supported me."
A former Chemistry teacher of the young woman, K. Vincent is impressed. He said, "At such a young age, getting her goal so clearly, she can be an outstanding role model to us."
Noorjan wants to do her PhD and become a professor. She certainly has a lot that she could teach to others.
