Earlier in the day, his body was kept at Ravindra Kalakshetra in the city, giving many of his admirers an opportunity to pay their last respects. Later, he was cremated at Kalagrama on the outskirts of Bangalore.
The Jnanpith Award winner, who died in Bangalore on Friday, was accorded a state funeral.
An educator, writer, and commentator second to none, Mr Ananthamurthy was a new voice in Kannada literature - part of the 'Navya' movement. His novel
