Chennai: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) leader P V Kalyanasundaram, a staunch loyalist of party treasurer MK Stalin, has quit from posts that he was holding in party-backed Kalaignar TV and another media company.

Mr Kalyanasundaram was earlier suspended from all party posts after he submitted his resignation  while pitching for declaring Mr Stalin as the chief ministerial candidate for the 2016 assembly elections.

In a letter dated July 31st, copy of which was released to media by him today, Mr Kalyanasundaram tendered his resignation as director of Kalaignar TV Private Ltd and also Anjugam Films Private Limited.

The letters were sent to V Amirtham, a director in both companies.

The suspension of Mr Kalyanasundaram from the party was earlier announced by DMK General Secretary K Anbazhagan who said that he was bringing disrepute to the party by working against it.

Mr Kalyanasundaram had also suggested that DMK supremo Karunanidhi's daughter Kanimozhi and former Union ministers A Raja and Dayanidhi Maran remain "aloof" from the party and urged the leadership to remove those functionaries from party posts, who are "facing land-grabbing and disproportionate assets cases".

Mr Stalin's supporters have been pressing for his elevation for long, but Karunanidhi has deferred a decision amid sibling rivalry involving his Madurai-based elder son M K Alagiri, who had been expelled from DMK recently, and Mr Stalin over the succession issue.
