New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has officially confirmed a bilateral meeting with Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meet in New York despite a severe strain in ties.

  • It is a very good development. Till yesterday, the chances of meeting Nawaz Sharif and the PM in the UN general body meeting was almost not there. I welcome the recent development. We hope for a positive outcome.
    Mustafa Kamal, National Conference 25/09/2013
  • The core issue is Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. They have to discuss on this issue. They cannot ignore national interest. They have to go with national interest and put American interest next. People will have faith in the government only then.
Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, BJP leader 25/09/2013
  • PM has gone to US. His primary duty right now is to address the nuclear liability issue. It is definitely an opportunity as he will be able to meet the Pakistan Prime Minister. As there have been ups and down in the relation between both the countries, talks must go on, that is what I strongly feel. He (the PM) should not make any compromise to please the US president.
    D Raja, CPM leader 25/09/2013
  • There is absolutely nonsense of having dialogue with Pakistan until and unless they don't give assurance of use of land for terrorism. It proves to what extent this government can bend, compromising the country's security. Sacrificing the interest of India for the sake of US meet is very unfortunate.
    Balbir Punj, BJP leader 25/09/2013
  • War is the last choice in any issue with any country. This is an issue related to terrorism and mafia. This is American pressure and this is a shameful thing. This deal benefits American economy only.
    KC Tyagi, JDU leader 25/09/2013
  • We have to keep Pakistan in our control. We better concentrate on our countries economy than America's economy. There cannot be any dilution in the nuclear liability bill. Pakistan should understand that India will not tolerate any terror attacks. People-to-people talk must be strengthened.
    Sitaram Yechury, CPM leader 25/09/2013
