Superstorm Sandy leaves 250,000 in Manhattan without power

New York: A record storm surge after Superstorm Sandy crippled power stations on New York's Manhattan island late on Monday, leaving 250,000 homes without electricity, New York mayor Michael Bloomberg said.

Most of the southern half of Manhattan was without power after floodwaters poured into subway and car tunnels.
