Bengaluru:
An animal welfare organisation in Bengaluru is holding sessions between animals and young children in an effort to familiarise them with each other.
The Charlie Animal Rescue Centre (CARE) organises weekend sessions for young students, who get an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the animals living in the shelter.
"I learnt how to pet dogs, how to hold them and how to look after a dog and other animals. I learnt how to pet cats, cats are shy, once they get confidence you should hold them and pet them," Arnav, a young participant, said.
Happy with the success of the programme, Mansi Jaiswal, a volunteer with CARE, told NDTV that she plans to continue with such sessions throughout the summer season.
"To be honest, the response was much more than expected. So, we are gonna do this as a continuous week-end programme, because parents have to be free to bring the kids. So, we thought all summer if we could get lot of kids to engage with animals the right way in the shelter, learn compassion and learn kindness, learn how to behave with dogs," Ms Jaiswal said.
CARE founder Sudha Narayan said that the organisation's programme covers 20 schools in the city every month.
"We have the ongoing program called the Young Angels Education Program, where every month we cover about 20 schools in the city and we talk to them about kindness to animals, values in life," Ms Narayan said.
"You can see the pictures of pups and kittens and all that, but you will never feel it till you hold them in your hands," she added.
