Paris Attack: Guns Found in Second Car, Police Suspect Terrorists Escaped

The second abandoned car found in a Paris suburb that had Kalshnikov guns inside.

Paris: Investigations are moving fast into the series of terror attacks which killed 129 people in Paris on Friday. The carnage has shocked the world, pushing terror ahead of the economic agenda at the G20 meet in Turkey. There was some panic on a street of Paris today after people mistook firecrackers for gunshots, said French Police. People were seen running as the Republique Plaza filled with mourners was being cleared by authorities.

Here are the latest developments:

  1. A black car used by gunmen who fired at people in restaurants during has been found in the eastern suburb of Montreuil. Several Kalashnikovs have also been found in the car, indicating some of the terrorists have managed to escape, reports said.

  2. This is the second car seized by the French police in connection with the attacks. Earlier, a grey Polo that had been rented in Belgium was found near the Bataclan concert hall.

  3. The French police have zeroed on one of the attackers - Omar Ismail Mostefai -- and six people including members of his family, have been detained. Mostafei, 29, a resident of Paris, had been involved in the deadliest attack at Bataclan concert hall, where 89 people died.

  4. Mostefai blew himself up after the attack. But he was identified after one of his severed fingers were found at the site and the fingerprint matched the police records.

  5. A Syrian passport found near the bodies of one of the terrorists is now suspected to be fake. The Greek authorities said it was used to enter the European Union through Greece. Six persons were arrested in Belgium after one of the getaway cars was found on Saturday had a Brussels number plate.

  6. Though the emergency declared in Paris since Friday is yet to be lifted, people gathered at the Republic Square in Paris since morning, lighting candles and leaving flowers at the makeshift memorial to pay their respects to the victims.

  7. "The Paris attack is an attack on the civilised world. We stand in solidarity with France," US President Barack Obama said today in Turkey, where the G20 meeting is being held.

  8. "We strongly condemn the Paris attack.  Beirut is also a reminder of terrorism. Entire humanity must stand as one against terrorism," PM Modi said in his address at Brics meeting. The attack has overshadowed the economic agenda of the G20 meet, which is now expected to focus also on the war in Syria and the refugee crisis.

  9. On Friday, within a span of half-hour, terrorists carried out seven attacks -- suicide bombings and firings -- near a sports stadium, bars, restaurants and a concert hall. By the end of it, 8 terrorists were dead.   

  10. The Islamic State, the terror group causing havoc in Syria and Iraq, has claimed responsibility for the attack. French president Francois Hollande called it an act of war and said France will wage a 'pitiless' fight against terrorism.
