Whether or not you are a dog lover, the video will cause your heart to spasm.
A rotund man dressed in a white shirt beams at the camera while holding a dog on the very edge of a terrace. Then he grabs it by the folds of skin on its back, and hurtles the dog, whose little tail was wagging seconds earlier, off the roof.
The dog plunges two storeys to the ground. The dog, who suffered a fracture, is being treated for injuries.
The dog-thrower and the horror film maker are both medical students in Chennai and have been identified after the video went viral as Gautam Sudarshan and Ashish Pal. The police believes they are hiding in their hometown of Tirunelvelli, 600 km from Chennai.
A senior police officer investigating said, "We have filed a case under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act. We are getting information from the college to get in touch with the medicos' parents. We hope they would encourage them to appear before us."
Investigators say the animal was tortured two weeks ago. After the video was posted on social media, dog activists launched a campaign to find the suspects, who rented rooms not far from their college. It's still not clear which building the dog was thrown from.
