Stootee and Aishwarya want to get back to classes even though there could be more rain.
Chennai:
It has been 13 days since Stootee and Aishwarya attended school in Chennai.
Pounded by rain over the last two weeks, schools and colleges in Chennai are on a rain holiday. Both the girls want to get back to classes even though there could be more rain.
B Stootee, a Class 9 student, says, "We are studying and revising at home but bored of studying the same thing again and again. I want schools to reopen."
Eleventh grader R Aishwarya has another worry. "When school reopens teachers would rush through the syllabus, I wouldn't have time to study, she says.
Authorities say they don't want students to suffer any hardship - both inside and outside school - because of rain. Many schools are inundated, while many others function as relief centres.
Teachers are worried that the long inevitable break could affect student performance in board exams due next year.
"We had scheduled revision exams and we are worried they may not get to study well before exams now. We may have to work longer once school reopens," explains GJ Manoharan, Headmaster of the Madras Christian College Higher Secondary School.
Even Anna University and the University of Madras have postponed their exams.
While the weatherman would have the final word on schools reopening, students would have to be prepared for shorter Christmas vacation and longer hours at school.
