Why This Chennai Theatre Group Has Been Chosen for International Honour

Launched in 1991 the group, The Little Theatre, had become a part of Chennai's calendar for its Christmas Pantomimes.

Chennai, Tamil Nadu: A Chennai based theatre group has been chosen to produce a play for the 22nd theatre festival for children and young adults in Iran next month, as their play titled "The R.E.D Bean Can" was selected among 60 contenders from around the world.

Launched in 1991 the group, The Little Theatre, had become a part of Chennai's calendar for its Christmas Pantomimes. According to them, they also became the only Asian group participating at the festival in Hamedan, Iran.

Ms Aysha Rau, the founder of the group told NDTV, "We are excited. Our scripts and music are original. This is recognition that we are reaching international standards".

A Post Apocalypse Action Comedy musical, the play has been written and directed by B Krishnakumar. He said, "It's about the world ending and there's a last man on earth with last bit of food and it's the drama behind it. There's plenty of laughter and action".

Though the younger generation is largely glued to gadgets and films, Abishek Joseph, Resident Actor says "children who watch plays turn creative and think out of the box".

The play has two main actors, while four others are helping with puppets and back stage requirements.

Vikas Rao, the Resident Choreographer said, "It carries a whole new flavour. I've chosen popping and free style. The actors are doing a brilliant job".
